Welcome to Life and Style by Jilian. Today, I am sharing my favorite Boho patio finds. I want to inspire you to transform your backyard into a Bohemian haven.
It’s all about mixing comfy styles with earthy colors and cozy materials. Boho is more than just a style; it’s a whole vibe.
This blog is about designing a backyard paradise with fabulous boho finds. I want to inspire you to create the retreat you’ve always wanted right outside your back door.
Before shopping for your pieces, you must evaluate your needs.
Do you have a small or large patio? Are you looking to incorporate only one seating area or multiple? What is the landscape you’re working with? All of these questions should be answered before designing the plans.
Once you have decided how you want your space to flow, you can start strategizing your shopping list. I would start with the seating area(s) first. The furniture set will be a large purchase and should be chosen wisely.
It’s important to choose sturdy materials that can withstand the elements. Rattan, wicker, and bamboo are sturdy outdoor furniture options that complement a boho theme!
I have a two-tiered wooden deck out of my patio door, so I knew I would need two seating areas. I decided to have one dining table for outdoor dinners, and on the upper deck, I have a full couch and chairs set for comfort. Everything else flows from these two sets.
Defining the Bohemian Aesthetic for Outdoor Spaces
The bohemian look blends nature and art to make spaces more relaxing and creative. This feel flows through every design choice.
Elements like gold accents, unique textures, and exciting patterns are key. Paired with soft and neutral textiles, you are on the right path. Bohemian design is all about making you feel snug, with colors and textures doing most of the work.
Boho decor can be defined in many different ways. It is a fantastic aesthetic that allows you to be creative and unique. A vibe that makes you and your guests feel cozy and relaxed when surrounded by it.
Embracing Cozy Comfort with Bold Colors and Textures
Incorporating greenery is easy since you’re already in nature, as greenery is a large part of a boho design. However, you can add a variety of other florals to bring brightness to the space.
Using throw pillows is an excellent way to add texture with bold colors. With such a large variety online, finding the perfect pillow is a breeze.
Lanterns, hammocks, and swings are must-haves for a bohemian haven outside. Using lanterns can make soft light that’s perfect for the evening.
Often, shiny gold lanterns with Moroccan designs adorn a boho backyard space. When lit, these lanterns create a glowing design that makes you feel instantly relaxed.
Hammocks and swings invite you to sit back and relax in a stress-free atmosphere. Nothing beats swaying in your backyard hammock with a good book or nap. Add some fringe, and viola, you have a boho hammock! lol
Mix and Match: The Art of Layering Patterns and Fabrics
The boho vibe loves to mix different patterns and fabrics. Combining them well adds visual interest. For example, you can match striped pillows with geometric carpets or bold fabrics.
The goal is to have a creative mix in a relaxed setting. This way, each design stands out without being too much. An area rug is a great way to offset the pillows.
An excellent way to enhance the fun of the hammock is with rattan and wicker. While these materials and patterns seem like opposites, they complement each other well when done tastefully.
Boho Patio: Crafting a Serene Backyard Retreat
Turning your backyard into a boho patio is about creating a serene space where you can connect with nature. I mentioned choosing furniture made from natural materials, such as rattan or bamboo.
Arrange the pieces in a way that invites people to sit and relax. Make sure everyone can see and easily access other spots in the area.
Now, consider the colors and textures that give off a boho vibe. Soft, natural hues with vibrant patterns on throws or rugs set the scene. These items help create an atmosphere that’s both exciting and calm.
- After sunset, try incorporating layered lighting, such as the lanterns above or string lights, to create a warm, inviting glow.
- Maybe integrate additional plant life that brings life and vibrancy to your backyard retreat.
- Adding unique handcrafted elements that reflect your style and enhance the hand-touched craft of bohemian decor.
Also, consider how people will move within the space, creating clear paths and spots for relaxing and eating. If you have a fire pit, your boho patio has another element of fun to consider.
